Snowflake “Snow” Bentley

2012 - 2016

Snowflake Bentley—our gentle, snow-white “Snow”—passed peacefully in our arms on January 16, 2026, at the age of 13 years and 2 months after a courageous battle with cancer. A beautiful Bichon/Maltese mix with soft all-white, curly fur and big brown eyes, Snow grew up right alongside our children, becoming the quiet, steadfast heartbeat of our family through every chapter of life.

Snow didn’t quite know how to “dog” in the conventional sense. He rarely barked, never cared much for toys, and preferred the simple joys: curling up on the couch, soaking up the Charleston warmth on the patio, or launching into one of his legendary Bichon blitzes—those joyful, whirlwind zoomies that made us laugh. He took his self-appointed role as backyard guardian very seriously, tirelessly patrolling the yard and pond, chasing ducks and geese with determined enthusiasm whenever they dared to trespass.

For several years, Snow was more than just our family pup-he was my devoted coworker. He loved “going to work” so much that he’d often beat me to the office, waiting eagerly by the door with those bright brown eyes, practically telling me, Let’s go!” Once there, he’d settle into his favorite spot under the desk by my feet content to keep my company through meetings, deadlines, and long afternoons. There was no such thing going to the bathroom alone. He also served as my body guard. His quiet presence made every workday better, turning the office into a warmer, happier place just by being himself.

Above all, Snow was love in four soft paws. He hated being alone and thrived on closeness—sleeping right on top of us, claiming the center of even the king-size bed as his rightful throne, or nestling into laps to absorb every ounce of affection we could give. He never growled, never showed a moment of ill will toward anyone or anything. People were his world, and all he ever wanted was to be loved and to give love in return.

Through surgeries, illnesses, hard days, and quiet recoveries, Snow was our constant comfort. He knew when we were sick or sad, pressing his warm little body close, resting his head into our hands, or simply staying near with that steady, reassuring presence only a dog can offer. He helped carry us through the toughest seasons, asking for nothing more than to be by our sides.

Snow leaves behind a family forever changed by his gentle spirit—the children he grew up with, the laps he claimed, the sunlit patio spots that will feel empty without him. The house will be quieter without the soft patter of his paws, the occasional happy blitz, and the way he’d settle in exactly where he was needed most.

We will miss our sweet boy every single day—his warmth, his quiet devotion, the way he taught us what unconditional love really looks like. Rest easy, Snow. You gave us more love than we could ever repay. Chase the ducks across endless sunny fields, soak up all the warmth you want, and know that you will forever be our perfect, one-of-a-kind pup.

Until we meet again, sweet Snow. We love you beyond words.

With all our hearts,
Your family
