Henry
2010 - 2026
Losing a dog is a profound sadness. Henry, our accidoodle, came into our lives unexpectedly and became a healer at a time when we were struggling with the reality of being a one-child family. He gave us another option for our love and attention, and became the perfect companion for our son, who needed someone to share his adventures with. For almost 16 years, he stood by our side through so much living and growth as "our" dog.
Henry was the neighborhood mayor. Children would run to see him when they got off the bus, hugging him and scrunching him saying "he's so soft!" Our elderly neighbors loved his gentle manner and handsome prance. He was athletic and dignified. I hate to say he made us look good. And after he outlived all his close doggie friends, we often ran into those owners walking alone who would stop to pet Henry, pause, and share memories of their sweet pups.
Reflecting on all of this makes us so grateful he was our family member to love and be loved by.
Now we will walk alone for a bit and that will not be easy. And when we see families with dog members to love, we'll stop and pet them and say hi, and appreciate the connection and pureness of love our pets give us—the way so many did with Henry. He was the best boy.
