Gus
2013 - 2025
Gus was more than a dog—he was a companion, a character, and a cherished member of the family. Born in Iowa on December 15, 2013, Gus made his way to Washington, DC in August 2017 alongside his devoted owner, Jenna. Gus quickly made the city his home, winning over everyone he met with his soulful eyes and boundless affection.
Gus had the unique gift of loving everyone—truly, everyone. He was happiest when surrounded by people, soaking up attention, belly rubs, and compliments. He adored treats, games of fetch, and his beloved stuffed animal ducks. Long walks were his favorite, especially if they involved chasing squirrels through Capitol Hill. He was a snuggler, a shadow, and a source of constant comfort. With his deep, expressive eyes—often described as “human”—Gus carried himself with a presence that made it easy to forget he was, in fact, a dog.
In August 2023, Gus took on a new role—as (a somewhat reluctant) big brother to Luca. Though he didn’t ask for the promotion, he grew into it with the same warmth and patience that defined his life. Luca, in turn, adored his “Gussy,” and the two shared a sweet bond.
On the morning of July 13th, Gus passed away unexpectedly from a ruptured mass on his liver after visiting one of his favorite spots—the 10K dog park. It was sudden and shocking, and the heartbreak that followed has been immeasurable. Though Gus lived a full life, it was not nearly long enough for those who loved him.
Gus will be remembered for his sweetness, his undeniable charm, and his unwavering love. He was not just a good boy—he was the best boy — and he will be missed beyond measure.
